Free ice cream and ‘census swag’ help efforts to get everyone counted

The Chico E-R covered the African American Family & Cultural Center’s ice cream truck, to encourage community members to fill out the census. In partnership with NVCF and 40 other member organizations, the Butte Complete Count Committee has been “the voice of action for these community-based outreach efforts,” according to NVCF’s own Megan Smith.

Harmonious therapy: Chico music therapists create free choir for people with Parkinson’s

Chico E-R covered the North State Therapy Choir intended to help those with Parkinson’s disease with their speech. With help from the Parkinson’s Foundations and NVCF’s Music Therapy Impact Fund, Erin Haley and Pam Sachs were able to establish the choir.

Coronavirus: Food insecurity on the ridge become crisis during lockdown

Chico E-R covered the struggle Camp Fire survivors are facing with food insecurity with local resources already weakening due to the pandemic. With a grant from NVCF, Jennie Lowrey of From the Ground Up Inc. is working to get 50 gardens planted on the ridge to meet local fresh food needs.

Concow event Saturday helps with census for Butte County foothill residents

North State Equity Fund award $21,000 in grants

Red Bluff Daily News reported on the grants awarded by the North State Equity Fund, a recently established collaboration among NVCF, United Way of Northern California and Shasta Regional Community Foundation. Six agencies were awarded $3,500 to support their efforts in racial justice and social equity.
