Golden State Linen is piloting regenerative production and processing systems for flax in our region, bringing a new industry and social enterprise to Northern California in collaboration with local community members, farmers, artisans and institutions. Golden State Linen will seek to bring sustainably produced linen products to the local community and beyond through educational partnerships.

We are creating a capital fund that will enable us to purchase the missing components within our mission to create a linen industry here in the US.  We have proven that we can plant, harvest by hand, and process fiber flax or scutched fiber ready for spinning. To grow beyond our research, we need a specialized flax harvester that is designed to pull the flax plant from the root. Having a flax harvester allows us to approach farmers to grow flax on a much larger scale.

The other missing component is taking our scutched flax to the finished linen yarn. There are no linen mills to spin the flax into linen, we need small-scale spinning machines to take the processed flax and make it into yarns. The two components a harvester and a spinning mill along with our scutching mill make a reality for a linen industry here in the United States.

Note to donors: North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) provides this page for the convenience of the charitable organization noted above. Donors are provided an electronic tax receipt by NVCF shortly after the donation is made. An administrative fee of 5% is deducted from the donation as well as the fee charged by the card processing company, and the net amount is sent to the charitable organization not later than 30 days after the end of the month in which the donation is made. All amounts sent to the charitable organization are for its discretionary use.
