Margrit Vogelesang Memorial Scholarship Fund

Family and friends of Margrit Louise Vogelesang cannot think of a more fitting tribute than to establish a college scholarship in Margrit's name.

Education shaped Margrit's life and in turn helped her shape the lives of more than 700 young children over the years. After receiving a bachelor's degree in child development from Chico State in 1997, she gravitated toward early-childhood education. Margrit taught in Glenn County for more than 25 years, including her last 21 in Hamilton City. In 2024, Margrit was inducted into the Glenn County Office of Education Hall of Fame.

She bravely fought cancer for many years but felt it was important to keep teaching and helping young people despite her personal battle.

The director at the preschool in Hamilton City where Margrit taught for so many years, Mariesa Fitzgerald, shared these warm thoughts with Margrit in her final days: "You created something so beautiful here. This preschool isn't just a building -- it's a place filled with laughter, love and learning because of you. You touched countless families and gave children a foundation of joy and adventure that will stay with them forever. Your impact is immeasurable. Thank you for everything you've done, for every life you've shaped, and for the love you've always given so freely."

That caring personality is what made her a friend to so many, at the school or in her personal life away from the school. Ever the teacher, she would create educational and creative games for everything from camping trips to dinner parties with family and friends. Participation was not optional.

She never stopped learning, either -- everything from researching nontraditional and holistic ways to fight the ravages of cancer, to teaching herself to fish late in life because... why not?
