Since 2023, the Willows-Glenn County Airport has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Its rich aviation history began in 1928 with construction of a Lighted Tower Beacon. During the early days of World War II, the Doolittle Raiders used Runway 13/31 for practice. And, in the fall of 1956, it was the base of the first air tanker firefighting squadron.

Today, the Lighted Beacon Tower is still operational while needing rehabilitation and secure fencing — a project supported by the Friends of the Willows-Glenn County Airport.
