Fund Purpose
The fund purpose is to assist in the establishment of Butte Defense Equity Project as a nonprofit legal entity within California and as a 501c3 under the Code. Fund Advisors agree that said purpose shall be diligently pursued and accomplished within 18 months of creation of this Fund. The Butte Defense Equity Project is intended to be a holistic criminal defense organization located in Butte County with the aim to represent indigent clients directly and to advocate for data-driven policy reform.

The Butte Defense Equity Project (“BDEP”) is a holistic criminal defense organization located in Butte County, California. We plan to represent indigent clients directly, and to advocate for data-driven policy reform. Our team approach will utilize social workers, attorneys, paralegals, policy advocates, student interns, and investigators to address the variety of issues that bring clients into contact with the criminal legal system. Our mission is to empower every client to emerge from their case with the best possible legal outcome and with tools to remain free from further engagement with the criminal legal system.
