June Trainings to Strengthen Local Nonprofits During Economic Difficulties

Chico, California (May 28, 2009) – Local nonprofit leaders have the opportunity to participate in two trainings in June provided by the Nonprofit Leadership Institute, a program of North Valley Community Foundation. On Monday, June 15, the topic will be “Bringing IT All Together – Internet Tech Solutions for Nonprofits.”  On Monday, June 22, the topic will be “Engaging Events – The Keys to Success.”

The June 15 class offers nonprofits a chance to move into the Web 2.0 environment.  New and established nonprofit organizations will learn about blogs, content management systems, semantic web design, twitter and the like. Don Peterson worked for a year to understand his unique audience and to design this course to fit the nonprofit sector. His not-so-secret hope is to bring many of these organizations out of the dark ages and into the low cost access to web technology that can serve the organization’s marketing, advocacy and development needs.

The June 22 class will cover not only the basics of event management, but the strategy to bring your events to the highest level. Instructor Ryann Cox will provide advice on ways to capture potential donors and motivate them to give. Events are more than just checklists and centerpieces. Successful events should be well-organized and presented in an attractive manner. Engaging events harness the potential donor in a deliberate and designed approach.

Both of these classes will help nonprofits to respond to the current economic difficulties. If you are a board member or executive staff of a nonprofit, you won't want to miss these trainings.  These classes are suited for the executive director, fundraising staff, chair of the fundraising committee, board members or for those thinking of making a career in a nonprofit. With revenues declining, these classes can help nonprofits maximize their fundraising effectiveness.

Both trainings are in Chico, in Room 217 on the Chico Campus of Butte Community College, 2320 Forest Avenue. The half day trainings take place from 8:30AM-12:30PM and cost $60 per person. For further details and registration, contact NVCF at 891-1150 or register online at www.nvcf.org.  Reservations should be made in advance, as registration is limited.
