North Valley Community Foundation Provides Nonprofit Capacity Building

Chico, California (September 12, 2007) – Local nonprofit leaders will have the opportunity to participate in a training provided by the North Valley Community Foundation’s Nonprofit Leadership Institute. On September 27, the training topic will be ‘Nonprofit Leadership; a Primer for Boards and Senior Staff.’

“During the past two years we’ve developed an intensive training curriculum for nonprofits organizations. These training will be housed underneath the Nonprofit Leadership Institute; the new capacity building arm of the Foundation,” explained Alexa Valavanis, Executive Director of North Valley Community Foundation.

“Our focus is on providing quality services to the region. We are committed to providing excellent financial and philanthropic services to local donors as well as high-impact training opportunities for nonprofit organizations. Together this will stimulate new levels of philanthropy in the North State, and nurture permanent financial sustainability for our nonprofits,” continued Valavanis.

Laura Cootsona, local expert in nonprofit development, and co-architect of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute will be the Institute’s primary facilitator. The September training is designed to help new board members and veterans alike. The course will show how boards can reinvigorate their purpose and their processes. It will also provide information on how to improve interaction with fellow board members and key staff. For Executive Directors, this course will provide information on how to effectively partner with boards and committees, and build a team that will take their organization to the next level.

Specific training topics will include roles and responsibilities, powerful meetings, recruitment of boards, board life cycles and board-staff relations. This training will be of benefit to both staff and board members of local nonprofit organizations, regardless of size.

The training will take place from 9AM-4PM on Thursday, September 27, in Chico, at the Butte College Chico Campus. The cost of this training is $75 per person. For further details and registration for this training, contact NVCF at 891-1150 or online at www.nvcf.org. Reservations should be made in advance, as space is limited.
