In Our Sons’ Names

Chico, California (November 22, 2006) – Last month a tragic car accident took the lives of two local high school students, Collin Sweeney and Alan Fleming. The devastating loss of these magnetic young men, who were best friends and church brothers, rocked this community at its core.

In the wake of this tragedy there has been an outpouring of community support to the families and friends, and a fund in Collin Sweeney’s name has been established at the North Valley Community Foundation.

“May some light come from this darkness; may some lasting good come from the short lives of our sons,” shared Brian and Karen Sweeney, Collin’s parents.

In less than a month the Collin Sweeney Memorial Fund has grown to $16,000. This fund was created in hopes of honoring Collin and Alan’s lives through supporting programs that benefit this community, and further the good works both young men were are part of.

Today it was announced that the Collin Sweeney Memorial Fund will make four $2,000 grants to the following programs:

  1. $2,000 to the Jesus Center
  2. $2,000 to Pleasant Valley High School Athletics
  3. $2,000 to Chico High School Foundation (earmarked for the Journalism Department and ACT).
  4. $2,000 (in the name of Alan Fleming) to Amor Ministries at the Evangelical Free Church

Contributions to the fund can be made to North Valley Community Foundation, in Collin Sweeney’s name. Mail checks to 3120 Cohasset Rd. Suite 8, Chico, CA 95973 or call 530-891-1150 for more information.
