Chico, California (March 21, 2006) – The North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) announces the conclusion of its Endowment Building for Local Nonprofits Challenge. This program, the vision of a local anonymous donor, generated great support from local community members and businesses.
“The program’s success is a testament to the power of the public and private sector working together, and our Foundation is eager to encourage those efforts.” Alexa Valavanis, Executive Director for NVCF.
Nearly all of the nonprofits chosen to receive a $5,000 gift from NVCF as well as a challenge to raise another $5,000 for a match - hit their goal.
“Our Foundation was so pleased by the community’s involvement during this nonprofit challenge that we matched every dollar raised (even that which exceeded the $5,000 challenge),” noted Valavanis.
In total, Bidwell Park Fund received $17,510; Big Brothers Big Sisters received $15,000; Boys and Girls Club received $15,000; Esplanade House Fund received $50,015; Habitat for Humanity received $20,600; Chico High School Foundation received $15,000; Work Training Center received $15,900; Catalyst received $5,960; and the Chico Library received $5,000.
“We believe this is the beginning of many opportunities for our Foundation to work with the local businesses, community members and charitable organizations. We are particularly thrilled that the vision for this program came from a local donor.”
