Chico, California (February 4, 2008) The North Valley Community Foundation’s assets recently reached $5.5 million; an increase of $3.5 million for the Foundation in two and a half years.
"Our focus is on providing the highest quality financial and philanthropic services to the region. This recent growth is an incredible byproduct of that focus and service. As the Community Foundation’s assets increase, our grantmaking capabilities will continue to expand. In fact, during the past seven months we’ve distributed $1.3 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations,” states Alexa Valavanis, NVCF CEO.
Grants from the community foundation are made throughout the year to charitable organizations serving all sectors of the community. This includes youth development, healthcare, the Arts, older adults, the environment and many other areas.
The tremendous increase in assets also represents many new funds established at the Foundation. This includes the Emil Stiefvater Charitable Fund which will provide grants to organizations dedicated to the spiritual and physical enhancement of older adults in the region. Another fund was recently established from the John Gottlund Estate that has a charitable purpose of providing financial support to causes that benefit the residents of Durham.
“This growth illustrates the strong commitment our community members have to giving. We are confident that this trend will continue as more and more people understand how the Community Foundation makes charitable giving effective and easy,” stated Valavanis.
