“Spirit of the Marathon” is the first non-fiction feature film to capture the passion, drama and essence of the famed 26.2 mile running event. The production features five runners – three amateurs and two elites – as they train for and ultimately run the famed Chicago Marathon. More than a sports movie, “Spirit of the Marathon” is an inspirational journey of perseverance and personal triumph; a film that will be embraced by runners and non-runners alike. Proceeds from the evening’s ticket sales will benefit the newly founded Girls on the Run of Butte County. Girls on the Run is a non-profit, youth development program that combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The first program will be offered in the fall of 2010.
