Words from Annie B's Participants

"The Annie B’s Community Drive, sponsored by the North Valley Community Foundation, came to a celebratory close last Saturday on the Bidwell Mansion lawn, under giant oaks that once shaded the Bidwells. Annie Bidwell was among us, dressed in her Sunday best, and her spirit must have been thrilled with the success of this venture.

I am pleased that Community Collaborative for Youth was honored with the 'Spirit of Annie B’s' Award, but beyond that distinction, the Spirit of Annie B’s is an awakening energy in our community. This is Annie Bidwell’s legacy: the spirit of community, the spirit of caring for each other and our planet home. Nonprofit organizations are one way that spirit is expressed, through providing services where there are needs - for families, children and youth, the homeless, for animals, the environment, for peace and justice in our world. NVCF captured that spirit through this funding drive, raising awareness of the many nonprofit groups working to fill needs and inspiring others to give.

I acknowledge Alexa Valavanis and Lee Laney of NVCF for their vision and hard work. $787,000 was raised by 127 community groups, matched by $102,000 in donations to NVCF, proportionally dispersed to each group. We each go home more secure, inspired by this innovative effort to build community, knowing we will grow from here. Our community is stronger and more caring for this chance to learn about each other and to give back for all that we receive." "I am writing this letter to commend the North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) for the marvelous event they organized last Saturday at the Bidwell Mansion to celebrate this year’s “Annie B’s” fundraiser. What a well-coordinated tribute to the many local non-profit organizations, and their benefactors, who collectively raised over $750,000 for numerous worthy causes in our region. Obviously, the Annie B’s campaign could never have taken place without NVCF’s strong leadership.

This joyful gathering, and the successful fundraising campaign it concluded, are evidence once again of the Community Foundation’s emergence as the lead agency for non-profit development in Butte County and beyond. Hats off to Alexa Valavanis, Lee Laney, and the rest of the NVCF crew for a job very well done!" Carl R. Ochsner, Executive Director -Work training Center, Inc. and Affiliated Programs. www.wtcinc.org
